For a good insight in the historical side of Cardiff take a trip around Cardiff Castle. The castle is one of Wales’ top tourist attractions and it’s easy to see why. This charming fairytale castle stands on a Roman site that was then later developed by the Normans, with further Victorian medieval style additions. A guided tour of both the castle and admission to the grounds costs £6 for adults and £3.70 for children.

The city is also famous for its splendid National Museum and Gallery of Wales located in Cathays Park. Here you’ll find a stunning collection of Impressionist paintings. Whilst the museum area houses a fascinating natural history exhibit, and another on the evolution of Wales, making it an ideal choice for all the family.

A further great choice for a family day out is the Museum of Welsh Life. This museum is one of Europe’s leading open-air museums and gives its visitors a clear vision of Welsh heritage. The museum transports you back over the past 500 years, showing how people in the area used to live, by guiding you around over thirty original buildings that have been reconstructed to form this attraction.

You can’t come to Cardiff without seeing the famous Millennium Stadium, home of the Welsh Rugby Union team. This state of the art stadium is one of the UK’s premier sporting venues and the largest under-cover stadium in Europe, thanks to investment of around £126m. Rugby fans must take a guided tour around the stadium, or better still book in advance for a match ticket to get the full experience.

Anyone with an interest in science, regardless of age, will love Techniquest. This fabulous science discovery centre has plenty of hands-on exhibits to put to the test. It also boasts a planetarium to educate visitors on the wonders of the planets.
