Cardiff in Wales
Cardiff is the Welsh capital and as such is a thriving financial and social hub, situated on the south coast of Wales. Its an interesting place that has changed much over recent years. It first achieved city status back in 1955 and basically hasn looked back since.
Historically it was a busy port used to export locally mined coal but as thats now a thing of the past Cardiff has been forced to reinvent itself. Thanks to significant rejuvenation work it has done so with great success. It is now known as one of the trendiest cities in the UK, and has even been designated an official centre of culture.
Today Cardiff is big on modern attractions including fantastic shopping opportunities both at the modern malls and the more individual Victorian arcades with their delightful little boutiques. The area also boasts a bustling café culture with numerous bars and restaurants, as well as relaxed coffee shops from which to watch the world go by. It isn short on greenery either, with a host of picturesque parks and gardens.
Cardiff Castle is slap bang in the middle of the city making it one of the main landmarks. Cardiff Bay is the other major landmark and where a lot of regeneration has taken place to provide the area with a modern waterfront and elegant marina. With so much to see and do its a good idea to visit ‘The Tube, the local visitors centre for advice on how to make the most of your stay.
